PHOENIX SYMPHONY HALL RENOVATION
Phoenix, Arizona
The renovation of the interior of the Symphony Hall included all new wall paneling for the concert hall audience chamber, lobbies, and green rooms. The retro-modern aesthetic was accomplished by developing an interesting combination of four woods (quarter cut figured Anigre, flat cut European steamed Birch, quarter cut figured European Ash, and rift cut Red Oak). These were mirrored both vertically and horizontally to achieve 16 different panel types. The panels were then composed into a pattern and set on the various walls throughout the hall and the lobby spaces. The fabrication and installation of the 4’ x 8’ wood panels into the pattern was a challenge due to the sloping floor toward the stage and the irregular ceiling. The resulting effect is a unique visual dynamic.
