San Francisco, California
This project is an adaptive reuse of San Francisco’s Main Library, a 1917 beaux arts-style historic structure. The building was preserved, earthquake retrofitted, expanded, and transformed into a 165,000 square foot architectural masterpiece. ISEC’s project management, purchasing, and engineering teams coordinated the selection, manufacture, and installation of the refined English Sycamore paneling, doors, and display cases for this unique and challenging museum project. Sycamore paneling is used in the courtyard corridors, lounge, and cafe; hardwood lattice at the second and third floor courtyard openings; and custom millwork in the central bookstore and lobby. Veneer end-matching was a challenge faced during construction due to the veneer not allowing for a continuous length to cover the entire 14-foot height.
